Personal Style Evolution

If you meet me three years ago, you probably wouldn't recognize me. I wore sweatpants and basketball shorts with Old Navy flip flops and band t-shirts and had some pretty bad blonde high-lights. Sadly, I went through middle school looking like this and feeling pretty bad about myself.

I fully thank tumblr, Pinterest, and Carly for helping evolve my personal style. I refound my love of Lilly Pulitzer, discovered stores like Vineyard Vines and Southern Proper. J.Crew became an inspiration rather than a store I never bought anything from. I dyed my hair a darker brown. (with a pink streak, I couldn't lose all my "inner-punk." haha.) Sweatpants became something I only wore when I lounge around the house in during the winter, and all my athletic shorts are made for women. I also started wearing actual shoes instead of constantly wearing flip flops.

Once my personal style changed, my opinion of myself changed. I stopped wanting to be invisible in my oversized sweatshirt and jeans, and I wanted to look nice because it made me feel better about myself. I like standing out in my brightly colored chinos and Lilly skirts. I like plastering my monogram because it makes something personal. Wearing a bow in my hair and pearls gave a skip to my step. Dressing this way gave me confidence, and I think that's what style should do.

Sure, I still want to wear jeans and a sweatshirt to school sometimes, but the days where I look and feel good far out number the where I don't feel that way.

How has your personal style evolved?
